The Network of Active Citizens (NAC) is a project aimed at developing leadership in the regions to conduct advocacy campaigns at the local and national level, which are aimed, in particular, at protecting green areas, cultural and archaeological heritage.

The Holka civil initiative assists activists in writing advocacy materials with the involvement of law enforcement officials, government officials, MPs, local government representatives, and experts. As part of the project, our partners also shoot advocacy videos that can be viewed on Youtube.

Holka’s analysts study legislation and bylaws to identify and advocate for the elimination of restrictions or violations of citizens’ rights in times of war. Our experts also analyze legislative initiatives and existing laws to identify corruption risks and eliminate them.

The project is open to activists from all over Ukraine and those who have moved abroad and continue to defend what is important for the community in their homeland.

To participate in the project, please fill out an application.

The project is implemented with the support of The European Endowment for Democracy (EED).

Media attention is focused on the frontline. In an existential war, the enemy is destroying our cultural monuments and archeology. In the New Country project, the topic of culture provoked heated discussions. Therefore, the support of citizens who are fighting to preserve cultural and archaeological heritage is very important. The network of active citizens not only talks about the concerns of community residents, but also gives activists a sense of support and understanding that they are not alone in this struggle, which inspires them not to give up and keep fighting.

I have known Iryna Fedoriv, the head of “Holka”, for many years as an activist who fought for justice in her hometown of Kotsiubynske. This year, her team’s engagement in defending the primeval forests of Svydovets against resort development demonstrated how attention to non-Kyiv issues can be sustained at the national level. Preserving Svydovets during wartime may seem like a low priority. That is precisely what predators who seek to extract rent from the common good are counting on. It is precisely against the possibility of such plunder that “Holka” is fighting. This dedication deserves support!

The initiative group “Let’s Protect Kytaiiv” thanks “Holka” for its support. We conveyed our position to members of the Kyiv City Council and Parliament, as well as officials and government representatives. Our texts were published by “Livyi Bereh” and “Hlavkom”, and our stories were covered by “Espreso” and “Pohliad”. This civic initiative identified and analyzed harmful projects that threaten archaeological heritage. This is a high level of effectiveness in supporting the community when the situation is critical. We recommend that active citizens turn to “Holka”.
