Biography

Liudmyla Buimister is a Member of the Verkhovna Rada of the 9th convocation. In 2019, she was elected to parliament representing the “Servant of the People” party (District No. 223, Kyiv, Shevchenkivskyi district). She joined the party after winning the election. Following her election, she joined the Committee on Economic Development and headed the subcommittee on competition development and equal conditions for business. She was expelled from the “Servant of the People” faction in 2021, and in the summer of 2025, she joined the “Batkivshchyna” (Fatherland) faction.

Timeline of Key Events

2026

The MP left the “Batkivshchyna” faction. This occurred on the same day it was revealed that the NABU and the SAP had declared suspicion to the head of the “Batkivshchyna” faction, Yulia Tymoshenko, for offering undue advantages to MPs. According to anti-corruption agencies, MPs were allegedly given instructions on how to vote, or in some cases, instructed to abstain or not participate in voting.

2025

Was absent during the vote for the liquidation of the independence of the anti-corruption bodies, the NABU and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (Draft #12414). The MP reported that she was on the front lines at the time. After the law was passed, protests began near Bankova Street, but Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed the law that same day. Later, the parliament adopted another law to cancel the effects of the previous one.

Joined the “Batkivshchyna” faction this year.

2024

Advocated for the revision of the controversial bill submitted by Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk, which abolished the Commercial Code of Ukraine (#6013). While the initiators declared an expansion of economic freedoms, the law canceled fundamental norms of state-business interaction and governance in state and municipal economic sectors. A number of NGOs emphasised that the law posed risks to national security and could lead to a large-scale redistribution of the country’s assets, given that the Verkhovna Rada had not approved a list of property exempt from privatisation.

2023

Supported the bill “On the Legalisation of Medical Cannabis,” which allowed the production of medical cannabis in Ukraine for the rehabilitation of wounded military personnel, including for the treatment of PTSD. The adoption of the law was advocated by the “Patients of Ukraine” organisation.

2022

Became a sergeant and the first female MP to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. She served in the 111th Territorial Defence Brigade in the Luhansk sector.

2021

Joined the inter-factional association “Smart Politics,” chaired by Dmytro Razumkov. Prior to this, she was the only member of the “Servant of the People” faction to vote against the presidential “de-oligarchisation” bill (#5599), stating that the law did not contribute to fighting oligarchs, created risks of usurping power, and granted excessive powers to the National Security and Defence Council (NSDC). Later, Buimister did not support the dismissal of Razumkov from the post of Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada. Eventually, she was expelled from the faction due to disagreements over key votes.

2020

Signed a draft resolution on the dismissal of Arsen Avakov from the post of Minister of Internal Affairs. Buimister also submitted a bill providing for the reform of the Antimonopoly Committee (#2730). The MP considered this project an alternative to the de-oligarchisation law, but it was not adopted.

2019

Became a People’s Deputy of Ukraine from “Servant of the People.” She was appointed to the Committee on Economic Development.

2016-2018

Served as General Director of the film distribution company “Kinomania.”

2012-2018

Worked as General Director of the Gdansk Shipyard. She was also an advisor to the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Serhiy Taruta, of the Industrial Union of Donbas corporation.

2002-2004
